About Me
I cover Jazz and all of its subgenres at the intersection of race and gender equity. I came to journalism by way of photography as a means of documentation and the preservation of Jazz. I hold a master's degree from each Howard University and NYU.
My ArticlesMy Jazz Story
I love jazz because it's one of the most beautiful artforms I've ever experienced. I was first exposed to jazz as child. I remember hearing such elegant music... Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, Ella Fitzgerald, Max Roach, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, etc., and it stayed with me, became a part of me. The first Jazz record that I purchased was A Love Supreme followed by Misterioso, Kind of Blue, Lady in Satin, and Giant Steps.
