John Lurie, Isaiah Collier, Dan Weiss & Steph Richards

John Lurie hasn't recorded any music since contracting Lyme disease several years ago; in fact he couldn't even listen to music because of the neurological effects of the disease. He retreated to someplace in the Caribbean then finally improved enough to come back to the US and made Painting With John for HBO. Lurie's music which accompanied the three seasons of the series is the subject of a his release called Painting With John. Lurie chose the music for the album himself. He says you need to listen to it in one sitting; alas, I've just got three selected tracks for you. Avant-garde trumpeter Steph Richards has had her own physical problems which forced her to rebuild her face muscles; she persevered and she sounds better than ever on her new Power Vibe out in May. Other new and notable releases sampled this time out are by saxophonist Isaiah Collier, drummer Dan Weiss, guitarist Travis Reuter, drummer Francisco Mela, pianist Marta Sanchez & trio and Aussie trumpeter Paul Williamson & bassist Karl Willebrant.Playlist
